We.10.Le Mt-Blanc.1
RE-THINKING ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Kerry Hinton; University of Melbourne, Australia
Intuitively, one would expect cloud computing to be greener than using desktop PCs and that avoiding optical-to-electronic signal conversion would improve the energy efficiency of telecommunications networks. In this presentation we will scrutinise these two fundamental ideas.

We.10.Le Mt-Blanc.2
HOLISTIC APPROACH ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN GLOBAL COMMUNICATION NETWORKS
Slavisa Aleksic; Vienna University of Technology, Austria
This paper discusses methods to improve energy efficiency in communication networks with emphasis on optical technologies and proposes a holistic approach for treating information and energy flows in and through the global communication network.
