ECOC 2011 Conference Centre Palexpo - as close as you can get

The Geneva International Airport, the railway station as well as the motorway exit «Palexpo» are just around the corner. The city of Geneva can easily be reached by public transport (3.5 km distance), bus no. 5.

We are happy to provide you with a free city ticket for public transport during the conference. Attendees arriving by plane can easily get a one way ticket to their hotel in Geneva city by the ticket machine just before customs. For all guests staying in Geneva the regular ticket for public transport will be supplied by the hotel. read more


Delegates and visitors receive their badge at the Registration Desks located in the entrance hall of Palexpo. Your personal badge shows the social events such as the gala dinner etc., you have booked for your stay. At the Registration Desk you will also receive your conference bag providing you with the program and further useful information.

Delegates and any other visitors of ECOC 2011 are required to wear their personal badge throughout all sessions and social activities associated with the conference in order to be recognised and admitted to the respective meetings and events.


Conference language

All sessions will be held in English. There is no simultaneous translation provided, except for public lectures on Sunday.

conference Facilities

Information Desk

The ECOC 2011 information desk is located in the registration area. Its staff will be glad to provide delegates with general information about the conference, from 9:00 – 18:30 h.
Daily programs, program changes and other important information about the conference and / or social events will be displayed on screens on a daily basis in the reception hall.

Hospitality Desk

A separate hospitality desk -  Hotels/Tours -  will open in the registration area from Monday to Thursday, opening hours from 13:00 h to 17:00 h. There you obtain time schedules of trains and buses to the city and further information about hotels. For all other information concerning your stay in Geneva, such as restaurants, maps, museums etc., Geneva Tourism is present with a booth in the registration area too and ready to help you.

Battery Recharge Point

A battery recharge point is available for delegates’ laptop and mobile phones in the registration area. Support and surveillance is guaranteed during conference hours: 9:00 – 18:30 h

Wi-Fi Connection and Password Delivery

A Wi-Fi Internet connection is provided in the conference center only. No password will be required.

Slide Upload Room

ECOC 2011 paper presenters are kindly asked to bring their presentations in MS-Power Point or Adobe .pdf format one day in advance to the Slide Upload Room on an appropriate media: USB memory stick or CD-ROM.

Ultimate deadline to upload the presentation is 2 hours prior to the speech. Only ECOC 2011 paper presenters will be allowed entering the Slide Upload Room. Paper uploading will not be permitted in the conference rooms. All technical devices will be provided by the organisers - no personal laptops allowed for presentations.

Support is provided during conference hours: 9:00 h – 13:00 h and 14:30 – 18:30 h 

Outside the conference

Restaurants, Bars and Lounges

There are restaurants, bars and lounges at Palexpo Centre where you can get meals and drinks. In the exhibition area, there will be a variety of additional snacks and food offered. Restaurants and pizzerias can be found in a short walking distance.

In the city of Geneva, there is a variety of restaurants offering typical Swiss or international menus. Nice spots at the lakeside or downtown invite you to take part in the typical Geneva lifestyle of “savoir vivre”. Please contact the hospitality desk for further advice.

Currency and Payment

The official currency in Switzerland is the Swiss Franc. Many shops, restaurants etc. also accept Euros, however, when paying in Euros the change will be in Swiss Franc. Furthermore the exchange rate may be unfavourable.

Major credit cards are accepted in hotels, most shops and restaurants. Please keep an eye on the respective credit card signs at entrances.

Bank & Change

There are some cash machines at the airport nearby where you can easily get Swiss currency via credit card. There is a branch office of UBS in the arrival area of the airport which offers extended services. Opening hours (UBS):

With a myriad of boutiques and department stores, Geneva offers something for everyone. It is the watch capital of the world, a centre for exquisite jewellery, and a place to find high quality Swiss and imported items.

Insurances and Expenses

The organisers of ECOC 2011 would like to point out that all expenses for travelling, accommodation as well as accident and illness insurance or any health related or personal cost have to be covered entirely by the participating company or by yourself.

The organiser may not be held responsible for any injury to participants or damage, theft and loss of personal belongings.

In this end of summer period, the temperature range is between 12° C to 21° C.

We recommend to bring along a light jacket or pullover for chilly days and evenings - especially recomendable for the boat trip (gala dinner). An umbrella in your baggage and some good shoes for your excursions would be a further good advise.
